COON RAPIDS, Minn. — Anoka County officials have confirmed that the Coon Rapids Passport Center, located at 455 99th Ave. NW, will temporarily close for construction beginning Thursday, Jan. 29, through Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, prompting a short-term relocation of passport acceptance services for residents across the northern metro.
The monthlong closure is part of a planned facility improvement project. During that time, passport services will continue uninterrupted, but only through appointments at the county’s primary administrative hub, the Anoka County Government Center.
County officials say the temporary consolidation is designed to ensure continuity of service while managing volume during construction.
Throughout the closure period, all in-person passport applications will be handled at:
Temporary Passport Acceptance Site
Anoka County Government Center
2100 Third Ave., Floor 2
Anoka, MN 55303
Service model: Appointment only
Walk-ins: Not accepted during this period
Appointments must be scheduled through Anoka County’s online booking system. Officials note that availability may fluctuate as cancellations occur and advise residents to check back regularly if no times initially appear.

Because appointment slots are limited and demand typically increases during winter and early spring travel planning, county staff urge applicants to arrive fully prepared to avoid delays or the need to reschedule.
For most first-time adult applicants, the U.S. Department of State requires applying in person using Form DS-11, along with original documentation. Key requirements include:
County officials emphasize that incomplete applications cannot be processed and will require a new appointment.
Applicants with upcoming international travel are encouraged to plan well in advance. Current federal guidance lists routine passport processing times at several weeks, with expedited service available for an additional fee. Mailing time is not included in those estimates.
Officials say the temporary relocation is intended to minimize disruption and remind residents that passport services at the Coon Rapids location will resume once construction is completed in late February.
For updates, appointment availability, and additional passport guidance, residents are advised to consult Anoka County’s official communications channels.
