MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Coon Rapids Seeks Resident Input as City Begins Planning for Growth Through 2050
The city's comprehensive planning process will address housing, transportation, parks, infrastructure and future development, with public participation helping shape long-term priorities.
COON RAPIDS, MN (October 11, 2026).
Coon Rapids residents have an opportunity to influence decisions that will shape their community for decades as city officials continue work on an updated comprehensive plan extending through 2050.
The planning effort covers some of the most consequential issues facing a growing community, including housing, transportation, economic development, water resources, parks and public facilities.
City officials have announced a multi-year process beginning with public engagement. Throughout 2026, staff are expected to gather feedback from residents and community stakeholders to help identify priorities and concerns.
A draft plan is scheduled to be developed and revised during 2027, with final submission to the Metropolitan Council anticipated in 2028.
Comprehensive plans provide guidance for future land use, infrastructure investment and development decisions. They also help communities coordinate local priorities with regional planning requirements.
For Coon Rapids, the process offers an opportunity to examine how the city can accommodate future needs while preserving neighborhood character, improving mobility and maintaining public services.
Residents can find the city's public survey and planning information through its official website.
