COON RAPIDS, MINN - While much of Minnesota is covered in snow, summer planning is underway at Bunker Beach Water Park, the state’s largest outdoor water park located within Bunker Hills Regional Park. The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department facility has announced significant operational and infrastructure investments for the 2026 season, including an extended operating calendar and enhanced amenities aimed at improving the visitor experience.
The forthcoming changes reflect a strategic effort to maximize operational efficiency and better accommodate high visitor volumes at the park, known for its wave pool, lazy river, and extensive slide complex.

The 2026 season will feature a full-week extension of operations. The park is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 6, and will run through Sunday, August 30, offering seven additional days of summer access.
To better align with peak visitor traffic, the daily general admission hours will be slightly condensed, moving to 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Park officials noted this adjustment allows for "other extras" and the expansion of early-morning fitness programs.

Anoka County is allocating over $1 million toward various capital improvements for 2026, targeting both visitor convenience and critical maintenance. Key projects include the replacement of the Lazy River Bridge and the start of a multi-year effort to renovate the Tidal Wave Restroom/Concessions Building.
In a direct response to longstanding visitor feedback, the park is prioritizing improvements to vehicle flow and accessibility. The addition of new parking spaces is scheduled to help reduce congestion and the distance visitors must walk from their vehicle to the park entrance.
Anoka County Parks and Recreation officials stated that the capital plan, which allocates substantial funds for facility maintenance and long-term vitality, is crucial. "These investments ensure the park continues operating safely and efficiently, while positively impacting the quality of life for our community members," an official statement accompanying the 2026 Capital Budget Book noted. The systematic approach to maintenance is intended to safeguard the park's status as a profitable regional anchor.

The park is significantly expanding its early-morning fitness offerings through the Cardio Club, which is popular with water-walkers and aquatic exercise enthusiasts.
Season pass holders, who receive unlimited water park access, will also see elevated value with the introduction of Season Passholder Appreciation Days. On these select days, pass holders will receive early entry to the park and discounted concessions.
The annual winter season pass sale is currently active, encouraging families to lock in their summer plans with significant savings.
The standard season pass, which provides unlimited access for guests over 48 inches tall, is currently listed at $90. Discounts are tiered based on the purchase date:
